Don’t Like Libertarians?

Maybe you like Libertarians, but you don’t know all that much about them outside their rhetorical musings. In any case, you should check out this discussion on the subject of suicide.

Just fyi:

  • ApathyClub = Matt
  • Joe = Me!
  • Necroscope = Mike Pitts, former Libertarian candidate for GA Secretary of State.

Frankly, I’ve not laughed out of disgust in a long time.

  1. Re Elliott Smith & Libertarianism…

The Comment that no one should mourn Elliott Smith’s loss is both nominally correct and misguided. I agree with the notion that unless you knew him, it’s hard to mourn him.

However, it is easy to mourn the loss of any further work from him and regret the suffering and pain of such a tortured person. It’s also worth experiencing the “There but for grace go I” pangs. This is not exactly, mourning Smith, but being a little awed at the weakness of every person, perhaps, shudder, even us.

  2. I’d say Robert got it right here. It’s not so much that one should feel some huge remorse at the loss of Smith as a celebrity so much as he was a person whose music I liked because I personally identified with it. It’s fair to say I didn’t know him and can’t mourn him on a very personal level. But Smith’s death none the less give me pause and, though it’s awful to admit, in no small part because I can identify somewhat with his death as with his music.
