		<description>AGREEMENT BETWEEN BLACK STUDENT ALLIANCE (BSA)
and PI KAPPA ALPHA EPSILON NU CHAPTER (Pikes)
ARRIVED AT MEDIATION ON JULY 28. 2004 AND AUGUST 17, 2004
 
The Pikes and BSA met at mediation on July 28, 2004 and August 17, 2004 to discuss their differences and to resolve the same and return to the campus.  In order to accomplish that, they hereby agree as follows:  
 
1.   Pi Kappa Alpha Epsilon Nu Chapter (Pikes)  and the Black Student Alliance (BSA) will jointly apologize to the University Community for the trouble that has been created in spring 2004 through University e-mail.  Pi Kappa Alpha Epsilon Nu Chapter and the Black Student Alliance will submit separate letters of apology to the Signal.  The form of the apology is attached hereto as Exhibit A.    
 
2.  Pikes will incorporate diversity and sensitivity awareness into their pledge training program so that something in poor taste like the black face matter will not occur in the future.   Black face paint will not be permitted by the chapter to be worn by fraternity members or pledges.  
 
3.   Pi Kappa Alpha will be subject to the same alcohol restriction as outlined in the Faculty Senate decision as affirmed by the Dean of Students for one semester. 
 
4.  The Pikes accept the proposal of the BSA and agree that they should be placed back on campus immediately, conditionally, with full implementation of their charter and ability to carry on their organization's activities, recruit new members and otherwise operate normally.  
 
5.   BSA accepts the proposal of the Pikes and agrees that they should be placed back on campus immediately, conditionally, with full implementation of their charter and ability to carry on their organization's activities, recruit new members and otherwise operate normally.  
 
6.  In addition, the Pikes agree to confirm to the Dean of Students of Georgia State University that their brothers and pledges will not wear black face paint in the future to any Pike functions.    
 
 
CONDITIONS:
 
1. Pikes and BSA will participate in a joint community service project 
by October 9, 2004.
2. Pikes and BSA will participate in Into the Streets in conjunction 
with the Office of Community Service.
3. The Pikes will incorporate diversity sensitivity training into their 
pledge program with assistance from the Office of Opportunity 
Development and Diversity Education Planning.
4. Pikes will participate in a community service activity of Phi Beta Sigma's choice within the fall quarter of 2004.
 
Verifications of conditions should be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for Student Services by the respective due dates.
 
In addition, the administration will incorporate diversity sensitivity training in the fall workshop of all student organization leaders.
 
This Agreement is executed this _17th_ day of August, 2004.
