Dear W00t, Keep your facts straight

Jim Wooten writes:

More than half of the transportation projects scheduled for this year in metro Atlanta got under way. All types were delayed, but bicycle and pedestrian projects were delayed more, with 73 percent delayed and 5 percent getting dropped altogether. That is as it should be. Both are primarily for leisure, not getting there.

My LTE in response:

Jim Wooten’s elitest comment, that walking and bicycling are “primarily for leisure, not getting there” is factually incorrect. Wooten’s attitude is that because he favors one mode of transportation, everyone else should do the same.

On most days, I bike to work. On other days, I walk and take MARTA. As a result, my car sits idle for all but two days of the whole seven-day week. To me this is a huge blessing — my commute is free of stress, healthier, and less expensive than driving to work.

I don’t expect Wooten to follow my example. If, for him, driving is the stress-free, healthy option, he is free to make that choice. But in the meantime, he should keep his facts straight and his elitism in check.

  1. Just as he is often unencumbered by the thought process, Wooten often simply manufactures or twists facts to meet his preconcocted opinion. He justifies this by saying he is an “editorialist.”

  2. I’ll let the readers judge the truthiness of your statement. :-D
