Always on the move

Leaves on a Bend

Rode PATH trail toward Decatur.
‘Round a curve, there were leaves.
Bike fell from under me. I land on palm.

Hurt. Ow. Kept riding.

Bike made funny noises.

Reach Ponce. Shift gear. Gear make “crunch” noise:

Broke Gear

Catch bus. Ride bus to Rusty’s. Record podcast.

Catch bus back home. Get home. Wrist begins real pain.

Awake — toss and turn — ’till 2:00 a.m.
Decide should call work and doctor.
Reach nurse, nurse asks many questions.
Make appointment for following morning 9:20.
Read book to take mind off pain.
3:00 : finally asleep.

8:50 awake.
Rush to doctor.
Doctor very nice — compassionate.
Doc thinks I broke wrist.
Got x-ray. Doc prescribes powerful happy pills.
Referred to specialist. Made appointment for tomorrow morning.
Doc gave me brace:

Broke (?) Wrist

Hurts to type.
Wrist in pain, despite pills.
Pills drowsy, not happy.
But still, I love life.

Thank you, HMO.
Thank you, friends.
Thank you, girlfriend.
Thank you, bosses.
Thank you, parents.
You made last night and today good.

  1. I say to you, “gesundheit!” Your entry was almost Tarzan, but more eloquent. I hope you heal quickly!

  2. Wow, what a trooper! Thanks for participating in the podcast the other night–I honestly had no idea you were in such bad condition. Glad you got some good pain medication, though!

  3. Gehhh, that sucks. Good thing they put the bike racks on our buses finally! Hope you have enough happy pills to last till you’re better. Cookies help too :)

  4. Joe,
Thanks so much for coming out the other night. I hope you weren’t in as much pain at the time and just didn’t say anything. Your health is more important than podcasting! If you ever break your wrist on the way to one of our parties again, please seek medical attention.

  5. I had no idea at the time I was injured. It wasn’t until about 2:00 that night that it set in.

Ha! Well, let’s hope that never happens. Hmm, should we start having people sign a waiver?

Seriously, Joe, you’re a trooper. I had no clue!
