Red light cameras

Barry Loudermilk says:

If it’s truly about safety and not about the money, then let’s put the money in the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund.

Well, Barry, I guess you’re not concerned about safety, then. The legislation you co-sponsored gets rid of the cameras entirely. How does that help the trust fund? Wouldn’t it be more useful to legislate that some percentage of the fines from red light cameras benefit the trust fund?

Or, perhaps, you just somehow believe that T-bone collisions are safer than rear-end collisions.

Clearly, our legislature is full of common sense this year. HB 77, sponsored by Loudermilk and Bobby Franklin, among others, belongs on the list of this year’s batshit crazy legislation.

  1. An interesting note: the tollway cameras on Georgia 400 have generated $14 million in revenue since their installation in 1998 for the general fund of the state budget. Why isn’t Loudermilk opposing this revenue generating atrosicty? The road has already been paid off. If it isn’t about revenue, why aren’t the tickets $.50 instead of $25.00?
