DOT To Hold May 23 Meeting On Commuter Rail Monday, 21 May 2007 The Intermodal Committee of the State Transportation Board will hold a special meeting from 9 a.m., until Noon, Wednesday, May 23, to discuss the future of commuter rail in Georgia. Intermodal Committee Chairman Larry Walker, of Perry, called for the special meeting and said he hopes it leads to a firm recommendation by the committee to the full board on the future of commuter rail in Georgia. “In the four months I’ve been on the Board, I’ve learned something of the commuter rail issues in Georgia,” Chairman Walker said. “I’m ready, and I believe the Board is ready, to resolve rail issues for the immediate future. I believe this special meeting will allow us time for a full airing of the issues, resulting in our being able to make a definitive recommendation to the Board and the Department.” Agenda items will include updates and discussion of the proposed Atlanta to Macon commuter rail project and issues regarding its first segment, the so-called Lovejoy Line, such as a proposed operational contract with Norfolk Southern Corporation, the status of a planned multi-modal passenger terminal in Atlanta, possible rolling stock acquisition, and a necessary commitment for local government(s) guarantees to absorb any operational revenue shortfalls. Chairman Walker also said he will devote up to an hour for comments from the public and other interested parties. Wednesday’s meeting will be held in room 401 of the Georgia DOT headquarters building at 2 Capitol Square, SW, across from the State Capitol. In addition to Chairman Walker, members of the Intermodal Committee are David Doss of Rome, Emory McClinton of Atlanta, Dana Lemon of Jonesboro, Raybon Anderson of Statesboro, and Bill Kuhlke, Jr. of Augusta. The committee is responsible for review of Georgia DOT policies and initiatives concerning mobility issues that involve multiple modes or methods of transportation. The 13-member State Transportation Board is the Department’s policy-making and governing body. What was this guy doing so far from his home this late and drunk?
